Talk with students about air pollution produced by cars and other machinery with gas-burning engines, as well as emissions produced by furnaces, fireplaces, factories, and incinerators. Then have the students work with a partner to conduct this experiment to see how dirty the air really is.

1.) Have a softness display. Invite students to decide which of the materials available are the softest. What do they think the tuffs of the Truffula Tree would most feel like?

2.) Brainstorm earth friendly alternatives for Thneeds.

3.) Compile all the changes the Once-ler caused to happen in the world of the Lorax.

4.) Discuss the word UNLESS

After Read the book

1.) Ask some questions such as: Why did the old Once-ler give the seed to the little boy? Where did the Lorax go? Do you think what the Once-ler family did was right? What do you think might happen in the future if the story were to continue?
